Community Initiatives
In an environment where innovation and promotion are crucial to increase the healthcare workforce across Iowa, University of Iowa's AHEC Program collaborates with school systems, colleges and universities, health professionals, hospitals, health centers and public health venues to connect communities to better health. There are a number of programs and activities, here at Des Moines University and University of Iowaand across the state, that align with AHEC priorities by fostering student interest in science and medicine or increasing health awareness through community education.
UI AHEC's service area encompasses 62 counties in Iowa. Many of the excellent health and science programs across the state remain relatively unknown to the intended audience of the local communities.
