Rural Medicine Students Take Care to the Capitol

Several Des Moines University osteopathic medical students from the Rural Medicine Educational Pathway program provided free blood pressure and BMI screenings at the state capitol on April 6th. As part of DMU Day on the Hill, students, faculty and President Angela Walker Franklin, PhD, visited the capitol to share the message that Iowa needs more healthcare professionals.

Northeast Iowa AHEC Names Dr. Matthew Smith 2011 Preceptor of the Year

In celebration of National AHEC Week, Northeast Iowa AHEC named Dr. Matthew Smith their 2011 Preceptor of the Year. The annual award is based on nominations from Northeast Iowa AHEC's clinical training students. A family physician in Waterloo, Dr. Smith was recognized for his clinical expertise, demeanor with patients and staff, business sense and willingness to let students experience multiple aspects of patient care during their rotations.

Gregory Kolbinger Presented With 2011 Iowa AHEC Service Award

As part of National AHEC Week, Des Moines University's AHEC Program awarded the second annual Iowa AHEC Service Award to Gregory Kolbinger in gratitude and recognition for his efforts in advancing AHEC initiatives. A dedicated supporter of AHEC, Greg has volunteered his time to provide students interested in the field of healthcare the opportunity to participate in Des Moines University's Iowa Simulation Center.
